There are numerous advantages to investing in priavte equity over public equity.
The strongest advantage is that the most economic value is created in venture companies. Typically, these companies aim at marketing new technologies which have huge potential. Examples of such companies include Microsoft, Google, and Skype.
What's more, the value of privately held companies is not exposed to stock market cycles which more than often have a fatal impact on an investor's performance.
For these reasons, venture companies have, by far, the biggest growth potential.
Sadly, it is generally not possible for common investors to invest in venture companies as they cannot diversify their investments enough and do not possess sufficient financial resources.
A limited number of companies, however, make it possible for everybody to invest in private equity companies.
